METHODS OF ASSESSING LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE OF STUDENTS OF NON-LINGUISTIC SPECIALTIES

Abstract

This article examines some types and methods of assessing students' knowledge in the process of teaching a foreign language in non-linguistic universities. Various assessment methods are used to determine the degree of students' mastery of a foreign language. The teacher organizes various types of control (tests, surveys, observations, etc.) in order to assess how well students learn the program, what level their knowledge is at, and what difficulties they face in learning. Assessment is very important for both the student and the teacher. The student can understand how correctly and completely he or she completed the tasks in the process of studying certain topics and draw a conclusion about what needs to be done to improve the result. The teacher can also see whether the educational goals of the course are being achieved, what needs to be changed in the techniques, and what is needed to improve teaching. The article presents some forms of control and assessment in teaching various aspects of language (phonetics, vocabulary, grammar), as well as four types of speech activity.
